Littlewick Medical Centre - Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire
Phased construction of a 3-storey medical centre built on the site of the existing medical centre which is to remain fully operational throughout the construction period.
Phase I - completed
Entailed partial demolition of the existing medical centre to enable the first phase to be constructed. Temporary accomodation made up the floor area lost due to the demolition.
The area of the site is extremely tight and to accomodate and provide sufficient parking space to satisfy planning, an underground car park was constructed with reinforced concrete retaining walls, floor and columns and an upper deck which forms car parking at ground level to the rear of the property.
The 3-storey structure is supported on a structural steel frame constructed over the car park incorporating metal decking with a cast in situ concrete slab. The external envelope is traditional cavity brickwork, insulation and stainless steel ties.
Internal partitions are both sound and thermally insualted metal stud partitions and suspended ceilings are provided throughout which incorporate the majority of the light fittings. All finishings are to a very high specification and hardwood veneered doors with softwood frames are included to all areas with the exception of reception and front of house where oak frames have been used.
The modern atrium area at the entrance extends to the full height of the building to provide a light and airy entrance/waiting area. All clinical rooms and clinical areas comply fully with infection control requirements.
Underfloor heating is provided throughout and is controlled and operated by air to water heat exhangers.
Phase I has been completed and handed over. Demolition of the remainder of the existing medical centre has been completed allowing Phase II construction to commence which shall be constructed to the same high specification as Phase I.
